25th Anniversary Celebrations - The 'Something Inside' Concert

Our 25th Anniversary celebratory concert was a huge success.   Playing to a full house, a myriad of performers thrilled and delighted with verse, voice, dancing and song.  The concert was covered in this article in The Express:

'A PACKED audience at Eton College’s Farrer Theatre listened riveted on Sunday to the harrowing personal stories of homeless people who live on the streets of Slough and London.

The stories were read out at the Something Inside concert, held at the world famous college to raise money for the London and Slough Run – a charity established 25 years ago by  Dorney woman Phyllis Wallbank to provide food, clothes and support to people living on the streets.

Over the years, volunteers have collected many of the personal stories of the people they visit.
Actor Terry Frisch – who appeared in the West End musical version of Lord of the Rings – read out some of the men’s stories, while Olivier-award nominated actress Elizabeth Mansfield  read out the women’s.

Also taking part in  the concert were comedian  Bob Mills, virtuoso violinist Analysa Ching (pictured) and the Thames Valley Chorus from television’s Last Choir Standing, not to mention Elton John tribute act Paul Bacon.

Among the audience were some of the 150 volunteers who meet up with Slough’s homeless every Monday and visit their London counterparts every Monday and Tuesday.

One of the volunteers is Mark Britton who  runs his own production company and it was he who persuaded the top talents involved to contribute their services free to the concert.

Brid Vaughan, who is chairman of the charity’s trustees, said: “We could have filled the theatre twice over. As it was, we sold out and got 400 people into the theatre.  As well as volunteers, we brought nine of the homeless people we see regularly to the show."'

The Trustees of The London and Slough Run would like to thank again all those who gave up their time to take part and made it such a wonderful night.  They would like also to thank everyone who came to the evening.  Your support also was hugely appreciated.

Rough Image - Art Exhibition

In April 2008, The London and Slough Run together with leading homeless organisation Crisis, held an exhibition of arts and crafts inspired and created by the homeless. Held at the Figura Art Gallery in Windsor, the event was regarded as a huge success both by those attending and taking part.

Phyllis Wallbank's 90th birthday

2008 also saw the charity celebrate founder Phyllis Wallbank’s 90th birthday. The celebrations took place at the Slough distribution point from where Phyllis, alongside other volunteers, still distributes the food and help each Monday night. Phyllis’ party was attended by volunteers and street people and accompanied by music and much merriment!
